Electrical Systems and Microgrids

MICRORREDES.png

The Power Systems and Microgrids division is primarily dedicated to the study and development of solutions for distributed generation and microgrids. Our researchers investigate both alternating current (AC), direct current (DC) and hybrid microgrids, as well as technologies associated with energy management, including storage and control.

The main objective is to guarantee the stability, reliability and efficiency of energy supply, even in scenarios of high intermittency of renewable sources, such as solar and wind.

The research group focuses its efforts on modeling, simulation and experimental validation of microgrids, always seeking to develop advanced techniques for energy management, power management, voltage control, frequency control and other ancillary services, promoting optimized integration between distributed energy sources, storage systems and the electrical grid when feasible. Research focuses on power electronics, aiming at improving power quality and offering ancillary services, such as support for network stability and dynamic control of microgrids.

This division also addresses the operation of microgrids in connected and isolated modes. These areas require highly efficient management and robust control strategies to ensure the best use of distributed energy resources, maximizing system reliability and efficiency. In this way, this research division contributes to the energy transition through sustainable electrification.
