Who we are
The Power Electronics Laboratories (LEPO) at UNICAMP are a research and development group composed of research laboratories located at the State University of Campinas.
The goal of this group is to promote sustainable innovation in the fields of energy conversion, storage, utilization, and generation. Currently, LEPO has facilities at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the School of Mechanical Engineering at UNICAMP. Within LEPO, there are different laboratories dedicated to specific areas of research.
The Marcelo Villalva Photovoltaic Solar Energy Laboratory (LESF-MV) focuses on technologies related to photovoltaic solar energy, aiming to increase the efficiency of solar panels and inverters while exploring new materials and techniques to improve their performance. Visit the LESF-MV website.
The Wind Energy Systems Laboratory (LEEO) is dedicated to advancing wind energy technology, exploring power electronics, electric machine drives for wind turbines, assessing the feasibility of wind energy systems, and seeking ways to enhance the efficiency and performance of these systems.
The Vehicle Electrification Laboratory (LEV) focuses on vehicle electrification, seeking solutions to improve the efficiency of electric and hybrid vehicles, electrification of agricultural systems, improving charging infrastructure, and exploring ways to integrate these vehicles into the electrical grid efficiently.
These laboratories work collaboratively, seeking innovative and sustainable solutions to the challenges faced in electrical engineering. Their commitment is to drive the energy transition toward more efficient systems based on renewable sources.
Since When
LEPO was founded in the early 2000s by Professor Dr. Ernesto Ruppert Filho, initiating work in the field of electric machine drives and power filters.
Currently, LEPO consists of approximately 50 researchers, including PhD professors, postdoctoral researchers, doctoral and master's students, as well as undergraduate research interns.
LEPO has already trained 30 PhDs, 54 master's graduates, and 60 undergraduate students, who are now working in national and international companies and various universities across Brazil. (See the Team tab).
Over the years, LEPO has carried out dozens of research projects in partnership with national and international companies.
